Sea songs have a way of staying with you. A chorus, a character, a place you’ve never been.
Shantyman gives those stories another life through designs inspired by maritime music, sailor folklore, and port-town history.
A little history. A little invention.
From a song
to somewhere new.
A name in a shanty can become the sign above a boarding-house door. An old sailor’s tale can become a ghost rising from the sea. A port’s history can suggest an advertisement for a business that never existed.
That’s the space our designs explore. Billy Riley’s Boarding House and Round the Corner Sally’s are imagined places inspired by songs. The Mollymauk draws on the seabirds and superstitions that followed sailors offshore.
The shirt is one way to carry the story with you—to a festival, an evening sing, or an ordinary day ashore.
