Drunken Sailor Brewing Co.

Few sea shanties are as instantly recognizable as “Drunken Sailor.” The song was documented at sea by the 1830s and was used for shipboard work that benefited from a fast, steady rhythm—particularly jobs where sailors could move together while hauling. Its simple question-and-answer structure made it easy to extend with new verses, and generations of singers supplied increasingly imaginative suggestions for dealing with the unfortunate sailor in question.

Our Drunken Sailor Brewing Co. takes that familiar bit of sailor humor and turns it into a fictitious waterfront brewery, complete with a cheerful old salt raising a mug beneath the company banner. It’s less a warning about drunkenness than a celebration of the song’s enduring good humor: strong chorus, strong company, and perhaps one pint more than was strictly necessary.
