A Drop of Nelson's Blood

Inspired by the traditional maritime song “Roll the Old Chariot Along,” this design raises a glass to one of its most memorable lines: “A drop of Nelson’s blood wouldn’t do us any harm.” The phrase has long been associated with rum and with the famous—if probably embellished—story that Admiral Horatio Nelson’s body was carried home after Trafalgar in a cask of spirits.

Our artwork leans into the legend, imagining Nelson himself enjoying the joke beneath the Union Jack, glass held high and entirely unconcerned by what later sailors might call their drink. Part naval history, part sailor folklore, and part excuse for a rousing chorus, it is a tribute to the way the sea turns history into song—and song into something worth raising a glass to.
